This is how it works
Our service is very simple. It all comes down to the weight and size of the boxes you use and placing your order no later than 5pm on the day before you want a collection. Our service days are Monday to Friday.
The maximum weight for each box or suitcase is 25kg. This can be the actual weight or what is known as the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is calculated by multiplying each dimension length (cm) x width (cm) x height (cm) and dividing the result by 6000. For example a box measuring 40cm x 50cm x 60cm would have a volumetric weight of 20kg. It is always the larger of the two weights that determines the weight of a box. If you need to send something heavier than 25kg please let us know so we can advise you on the best way to move it.
If you are using our international service there are two other things to consider. Firstly our standard international service is for collection in the UK for delivery to the other EU countries. If you want to a collection from the EU for delivery to the UK contact us we will give you a quote.
Secondly there is a restriction on the size of the boxes you can send but there is a formula you can use to check if your boxes are OK. You have to calculate what is known as the girth of the box and the maximum girth is 300. This is calculated by adding the two smallest dimensions of the box together and then multiplying this by 2. Then add the longest dimension and the result is the girth. For example, if you have a box measuring 40cm x 50cm x 60cm then the girth would be 40 + 50 = 90; 90 x 2 =180; 180 + 60 = 240, the girth.
Overweight boxes
Our carriers tell us if there are any overweight boxes. Going overweight on just one box can put the whole consignment into a much more expensive price structure. We reserve the right to hold your consignment at the depot if we find overweight boxes and you have not contacted us in advance to discuss the best and cheapest options and paid any surcharges we agree.
Collection and delivery times
We are often asked if we can arrange specific collection or delivery times. We could, but it would be much more expensive. Our service has been designed to offer the lowest prices for students and this means that the couriers only have to guarantee the collection and delivery deadlines.
We can arrange for deliveries to be made on a Saturday morning but this is an expensive option with a minimum £25 surcharge so we recommend you stick to the standard Monday to Friday service.
Where can I get some boxes?
We strongly recommend you only use good quality double-walled removal boxes. You can buy these locally from an office products store, a storage company or the Post Office. Once you have bought them they should last you for most of your time at university, college or school. If you are having difficulty finding suitable boxes, please contact us.
